24th Licensing Round award to Idemitsu

Additional acreage in the Barents Sea.

On 18 June 2018, the Ministry of Petroleum and Energy (MPE) announced that Idemitsu Petroleum Norge AS (IPN) has been offered a 20 % share in production license PL 537 B, as part of the 24th Licensing Round on the Norwegian Continental Shelf.


The license is located in block 7324/4 in the Barents Sea, and is awarded additionally to PL 537 (IPN 20 %). Idemitsu has been a licensee in PL 537 since the award in the 20th Licensing Round in 2009. PL 537 includes the Wisting and Hanssen oil discoveries made in 2013 and 2014, respectively.


“The 24th Licensing Round award complements our existing license portfolio well, and underpins Idemitsu’s strategy and long-term commitment to the Norwegian Continental Shelf”, comments Idemitsu Petroleum Norge’s Managing Director Hiroshi Arikawa.

Petoro AS            20 %
 Equinor Energy AS            35 %
