Submission of PDO for Hywind Tampen

16. oktober 2019

The final investment decision for the Hywind Tampen offshore wind farm project was approved by the partners in the Snorre and Gullfaks licenses, and the Plan for Development and Operation (PDO) was submitted to the Norwegian authorities.

The Snorre and Gullfaks fields will be the first ever oil and gas fields powered by a floating offshore wind farm, with the aim to reduce the CO2 footprint for the operating fields.

The wind farm consists of 11 wind turbines based on the Hywind technology. Total capacity of 88 MW will be capable of meeting about 35 % of the annual power demand on Snorre A and B, Gullfaks A, B and C platforms, thereby reducing the use of gas turbines to cut CO2 emissions by more than 200 000 tonnes per year.

- Idemitsu is pleased to be part of the Hywind Tampen project. This project demonstrates the industry’s initiative and capability to be innovative and brings the offshore wind technology an important step forward. The project will contribute to the energy transition towards more sustainable energy supply and we look forward to continuing the co-operation with Equinor and the partners towards generation start in 2022, says Hiroshi Arikawa, Managing Director of Idemitsu Petroleum Norge.
