Delineation of the Dugong oil discovery

7. april 2021

Idemitsu Petroleum Norge is pleased to announce that drilling of the Dugong appraisal well 34/4-16 S has been successfully completed.

The wellbore is located in production licence 882 about 10 kilometres northwest of the Snorre field and represents the third well in the license.

The objective for the well was to delineate the discovery made in the Middle Jurassic Rannoch Formation (Brent Gp) by the wells 34/4-15 S and 34/4-15 A in 2020, confirming commercial discovery.

The well encountered oil-bearing sandstones of moderate reservoir quality in the Rannoch Formation. Extensive volumes of data have been acquired, and samples have been taken.  The well is temporarily plugged and abandoned, and formation testing is scheduled later in 2021.

Well 34/4-16 S was drilled to a vertical depth of 3556 metres below sea level and a measured depth of 3603 metres. The well was terminated in the Early Jurassic Drake Formation of the Dunlin Group. Water depth at the site is 330 metres.

34/4-16 S was drilled by the Deepsea Yantai drilling facility.

Futoshi Tsuneyama, Managing Director of Idemitsu Petroleum Norge, says: “I am very pleased with the results of the successfully completed appraisal well and that important data acquisition was accomplished as planned.  The information will be used to further optimize the development solution for the Dugong field”.

Idemitsu Petroleum Norge holds a 20 % working interest in PL 882. The license is operated by Neptune Energy Norge with a 45 % working interest. Other partners are Petrolia NOCO (20 %) and Concedo (15 %).
